Welcome to the Slade Fan Club archive
Hi
I'm Dave Kemp. I was born on 14th January 1960 and became a big fan of Slade in the 1970's and 1980's.
Slade's manager, Chas Chandler, opened an official Fan Club for them in July 1971.
I was in the Club. I joined in April 1973 and would await the bi-monthly newsletters with anticipation. I used to write to Di (the Secretary) all the time. I was pleased to actually be mentioned in a few newsletters (January-February 1974, August-September 1975 and February-March 1976).
The Fan Club office was first based in Brook St, London, W1, moving in 1973 to 13 South Molton Street, W1, and later moved again to 49 Upper Montagu Street in 1974. The later office was round the corner to my school in Marylebone Road. I used to visit the office every lunchtime. What a surprise it was to find out that Di was really a guy called John Bright.....
When the original Fan Club closed in 1977. I was gutted.
All the original newsletters were published in a 1976 book called The Slade Papers. It was great - but the disappointment for me was that all the original photos were replaced.
Because of my disappointment, at the closure of the club, I contacted Chas Chandler (Slade's Manager) and he agreed that I could run it myself. I knew the band pretty well, and followed them all around the country seeing their gigs. I the ran the club between 1979-1981. I was later followed by three other guys who in turn took the helm; Trevor Slaughter, Paul Lythe and Malcolm Skellington.
I thought it would be good to share all the original newsletters I own, in all their glory. I got the idea for this site from a Glitter Band website (www.glitter-rock.com) that has a section where all the old Glitter Band Fan Club newsletters are online. It would be my challenge to get all the old Slade Fan Club newsletters online, so they are easily accessable to all fans. I am almost there. The Fan Club started in July 1971 - and was in force for most years until the band "split" in March 1992, after the release of their last single "Universe". I have most of these newsletters published in the pages of this site.
Enjoy the interesting and trivial information that was contained within!

Can you help?
I was missing some of the early Slade Fan Club newsletters from the early 1970's, and some of the later ones in the late 1980's and 1990's.
Rudi Schubert, John Johnson, Paul Lythe, Dave Graham, Andy Boden and Ian Edmundson have provided me with some of the newsletters that I was missing. Many thanks!
Please look through the site. The original Slade Fan Club started in July 1971. I want to publish all Fan Club newsletter's from when the Fan Club started until the original Slade effectively split, after the release of the "Universe" single in December 1991. The newsletters that I am now missing are July 1971 to March 1972 (4 newsletters I think). If you have any of the few missing newsletters that I have not published - then please contact me!
